Safety Information
- Amoxicillin is considered safe for most pets when used as directed.
- Possible side effects may include:
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Decreased appetite
- Drooling (in cats, especially with bad-tasting suspensions)
- These effects are usually mild and short-lived.
- More serious issues like allergic reactions (facial swelling, itching, hives, trouble breathing) are rare but require immediate veterinary attention.
- Pets with a history of penicillin allergies should not take amoxicillin.
- Use cautiously in pets with kidney disease—your vet may adjust the dose accordingly.
Warnings
- Do not give this medication to pets who have previously shown hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, penicillin, or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
