Fluconazole is generally well tolerated by pets. The most common side effects of Fluconazole are loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, skin rash, and jaundice. Liver toxicity can occur, especially with long-term use. Reach out to your vet if your pet experiences any side effects.
Fluconazole may interact with other medications. Be sure to tell your vet about any medications, vitamins, or supplements that your pet is taking.

- Fluconazole is generally well-tolerated, especially compared to some other antifungal drugs.
- Possible side effects include:
- Decreased appetite
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Lethargy or tiredness
- Elevated liver enzymes (with long-term use)
- More rarely, pets may experience neurological symptoms like unsteadiness or seizures—especially at high doses or with underlying liver issues.
- Routine blood work may be recommended to monitor liver health during prolonged treatment.
- Use cautiously in pets with existing liver disease, kidney disease, or pregnant animals.
Warnings
- Do not use fluconazole in pets with a known allergy to this medication or other azole antifungals.
- Let your veterinarian know if your pet is taking other medications, especially drugs that affect the liver or kidneys, or medications that rely on liver enzymes for metabolism.
- Drug interactions can occur, so close monitoring may be required.
- Always follow the prescription label and veterinary instructions carefully.
