What is Gentamicin/Betamethasone Topical Spray?

Gentamicin/Betamethasone Topical Spray is a topical medication that’s prescribed to treat bacterial skin infections, including hot spots, in dogs. It contains a combination of corticosteroids and antibiotics to heal the infection, reduce inflammation, and relieve itching.

How is Gentamicin/Betamethasone Topical Spray given?

Follow the instructions from your vet. Prior to treatment, remove excessive hair and clean the lesion and adjacent area. Hold bottle upright 3–6 inches from the lesion and depress the sprayer head twice. Administer 2–4 times daily for 7 days. Each depression of the sprayer head delivers 0.7 mL of GentaVed Topical Spray.

What are the possible side effects of Gentamicin/Betamethasone Topical Spray?

Side effects may include weight loss, loss of appetite, excessive thirst, and excessive urination. Vomiting and diarrhea occasionally bloody have been observed in dogs. Cushing’s syndrome in dogs has been reported in association with prolonged or repeated steroid therapy.

Safety Information

  • Use only on dogs—not approved for use in cats or other species unless directed by a vet.
  • Avoid using in animals with fungal or viral skin infections unless your vet approves.2
  • Prolonged use may lead to thinning of the skin or other side effects typical of corticosteroids.
  • Gentamicin may occasionally cause mild skin irritation or allergic reactions.
  • Always complete the prescribed treatment and follow your vet’s monitoring instructions.2

Warnings

  • Do not use on deep wounds, severe burns, or puncture injuries.
  • Discontinue if signs of hypersensitivity, redness, or worsening of the condition appear.
  • Caution is advised when using in pregnant or lactating animals—only under veterinary supervision.
  • Avoid long-term or widespread use unless clearly needed, as this may suppress local immune response.2

Human Warnings

  • This product is not for human use.
  • Accidental skin contact may cause irritation, and eye contact should be avoided.
  • Wash hands thoroughly after applying the medication to your pet.
  • In case of accidental ingestion or exposure, seek medical attention immediately.
