What is Reconcile?

Reconcile is an FDA-approved presciption medication for the treatment of separation anxiety in dogs in conjunction with behavior modification training. This once-a-day flavored, chewable tablet helps achieve a calmer frame of mind in dogs — reducing detrimental behaviors and making them more receptive to training. Vets may also prescribe Reconcile for cats.

Reconcile is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI).

What does Reconcile treat?

Common symptoms that Reconcile treats include:

  • Destroying household items
  • Going to the bathroom indoors (peeing & defecating)
  • Barking, howling and/or whining
  • Excessive drooling
  • Frequent pacing
  • Attempt to escape / signs of damage around doors or windows

Conditions that Reconcile treats include:

  • Separation anxiety

How is Reconcile given?

Give Reconcile to your pet once a day orally according to the instructions provided by your vet. This flavored chewable has a taste dogs love.

Who is Reconcile for?

Dogs. It may also be used off-label in cats.

What are the active ingredients of Reconcile?

The active ingredient of Reconcile is fluoxetine hydrochloride.

What are the possible side effects of Reconcile?

As with all medications, side effects may occur. Your veterinarian can best describe these for you and discuss what to do if you observe any unexpected effects or unusual behavior in your dog. The most serious side effect is seizures (convulsions), which in rare and severe cases can result in death. Based on clinical field studies, some animals may appear more calm or lethargic. Additional side effects that may be observed include decreased appetite, vomiting, shaking or shivering, diarrhea, restlessness, excessive vocalization or whining, aggression, ear infections, disorientation, incoordination, constipation, excessive salivation, and weight loss. Since the introduction of Reconcile, additional side effects reported are anxiety, dilated pupils, panting, and confusion.
